7 simple ways to boost your metabolism

  1. Eat, eat, eat!!!

Most of us believe that to lose weight we should cut down the number of calories we consume each day. But the problem with this if we don’t eat enough, our metabolism eventually slows down. The key isn’t to focus too much on calories but on the nutrient density of the foods we consume. If the majority of our diet is whole food, fruit, vegetables, nuts, legumes and lean protein, then we’re on the right track to increasing our metabolism. Women need to consume at least 1200 calories a day to keep their metabolism at it’s peak.  Kate Skinner, a Sydney-based renowned nutritionist also emphasizes that “You need to be healthy to lose weight, not lose weight to be healthy”.[1]

  1. Never Miss Breakfast

Eating breakfast is really important as sleeping decelerates the metabolic function. By eating breakfast everyday, you’re making sure you wake up your metabolism!

  1. Drink Water

Your metabolism needs a kick start and water is the best kicker. You must make it a habit to drink at least 7-8 glass of water daily

  1. Sleep enough!

Who doesn’t like to sleep? We sure do. But now you too have another reason to spend more time with your bed. Yes, sleep more to wake up your slow metabolism. When you don’t have enough sleep, blood sugar levels in your body get disturbed. You need to go to bed early and take longer sleeps for your metabolism to work perfectly.

  1. Green Tea Intake

Green tea has so many benefits for your body and boosting metabolism is one of them. The presence of catechin.(an antioxidant) in green tea makes it a must for people who have slow metabolism. You can consume 4-5 cups everyday to balance your metabolic level.

  1. Have Omega-3s

Omega-3s are awesome! Their anti-inflammation properties and assistance in maintaining your blood sugar levels make them so important. They help to keep your heart healthy.

Omega-3s intake controls your body’s metabolism. You can either take them in the form supplements or make spinach, avocados, and walnuts a regular part of your diet.

  1. Don’t Stress

Don’t sweat the small stuff. If you worry about small things too much, you’re actually causing your metabolic activity to slow down. What’s more, when you’re stressed, you crave for chocolates and other sugary temptations. You must make it a habit of laughing out your stress. This habit would allow you to diminish your stress levels and not gain weight.

It is important for you to not skip food. People assume (falsely) that not eating will help them to remain healthy and in shape. This isn’t true. You need to understand that food is a source of living a healthy life and skipping it isn’t the right way to reduce weight and increase your metabolism.
