There are two surprising habits that cause tummy fat – yes bad habits. 

 

 

 

 

Habit 1 – Stress

The first bad habit that causes tummy fat is too much stress in our lives all the time. There are a few names for stress, drama, mess and anxiety. Think about how much tummy fat you have, feel it in your hands and then think about how much stress and drama you have in your life. It’s scientifically proven that stress causes tummy fat.. See any connection? (Smile).

So how does stress cause tummy fat? One word: Cortisol

When you’re always stressed out, your body releases cortisol and fat caused by stress stores in the belly. Cortisol is also nicknamed the stress hormone. So the short story is that high cortisol increases the fat around the tummy, increases your hunger and leads to more cravings.

When cortisol is released into the bloodstream, you become less sensitive to leptin, the hormone that tells your brain that you are full. When this happens, you tend to eat more and begin to crave sugar. That means that your body not only slows down your metabolism when you’re stressed out, it actually tells you to consume more food.

Here’s how it works: Cortisol is released in larger amounts during times of stress, producing the  “fight or “flight response” Then the hormone triggers a hunger response in the brain, signaling cells to store as much fat as possible.

To lose tummy fat, you have to reduce your cortisol levels.

Think of three things or three people who stress you out. Then think about how you can remove these situations or people out of your life or improve them.

Habit 2 – Lack of sleep

Another bad habit  is lack of sleep. If you’re serious about losing that tummy fat, then you have to get more sleep! Did you know that sleep helps you burn fat?

Studies show that people who got at least 8.5hrs of sleep lost twice as much fat as those who got 5.5hrs of sleep or less. Sleep can help you burn twice as much fat. Research has shown that people were burning an extra 115 calories per day by getting more sleep.

Lack of sleep leads to food cravings, especially sweets and carbs. Research has shown that these sugar cravings stem from the fact that the brain is fuelled by glucose. Therefore, when it is sleep deprived, the brain starts searching for carbs to keep it going. The extra sugar will cause you to gain weight.

Sleep is the body’s way of recharging the system and is the easiest yet most underrated activity to heal the body. Sleep also helps to get rid of puffy red eyes and dark circles. There isn’t anything that can compensate for lack of sleep. Lack of sleep causes extra wear and tear and accelerates aging and pushes the body out it’s natural balance and rhythm. Not getting enough sleep or going to bed stressed interferes with the best time for losing extra weight. Try meditating before bed, light a candle, write down 3 things you are grateful for before sleep. Getting enough sleep helps you burn more calories both at night and during the day.
